The Two Types of Purity in Islam
One of the core ideas in Islam is achieving outward and inward purity. Having purity is among the prerequisites of prayer.
The Quran says:
“God loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves” (2:222)
The Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
"Purity is half of faith" (Muslim)

Purity is of two types: physical (haqiqi) and ritual (hukmi).

To achieve physical purity, we clean our body, cloths, and place of prayer from impure substances.
To achieve spiritual purity, we perform wudu, ghusl, or tayammum depending on the circumstance.
